Five types of livestock in Eurasian steppe

−horses, cattle, camels, goats, and sheep−

馬（ウマ）、牛（ウシ）、駱駝（ラクダ）、山羊（ヤギ）、羊（ヒツジ）。中央ユーラシアの草原地域の、5種類の主要な家畜たちのことです。

横浜ユーラシア文化館企画展「遊牧世界の造形―人と暮らす動物たち―」では、五畜をテーマにした造形の数々をご紹介します。山羊や羊の家畜化の先進地である西アジア、騎馬遊牧民の文化を確立したアジアとヨーロッパを結ぶ草原地帯、その東端にあり、今も遊牧生活の伝統を残すモンゴル高原から中国北部にいたる地域など、ユーラシア大陸の各地で作られた五畜の造形を展示します。土器、土製品、青銅製の利器や装飾品、生活用具、絵画作品などに表現された五畜たち。そこには、五畜を知りつくした人々の、確かなまなざしがあります。五畜とともに暮らす生活が生み出した芸術をお楽しみいただければ幸いです。

This exhibition is a first-of-its-kind display of nomadic handicrafts and utensils, featuring five major domestic animals−horses, cattle, camels, goats, and sheep−of Eurasia. Exhibits, ranging from antiquities to modern works, will include West Asian earthenware, bronze artifacts from the steppe region, Chinese clay figures, and paintings by modern Mongolian artists. These designs embody the nomads' thorough knowledge of their livestock.
