横浜ユーラシア文化館には、ユーラシアの考古・歴史・美術・民族に係わる図書、約25,000冊が所蔵されています。ここでは、蔵書の中でも特に貴重なバジル・グレイ旧蔵書をご紹介します。

The collection of the Yokohama Museum of EurAsian Cultures contains some 25,000 books on history, archaeology, art history, and ethnology. Introduced this time is part of our precious collection formerly owned by Basil Gray.

バジル・グレイ旧蔵書 Former Basil Grey Collection  
1946年から1969年まで大英博物館の東洋部長を務めたバジル・グレイ（1904−1989）が研究活動を通して集めたもので、インド、中国、日本の美術をはじめ、日本では珍しいイスラム美術に関する資料が充実している貴重なコレクションです。

Basil Gray (1904-1989), a world authority on Islamic art, served as the director of the Department of Oriental Antiquities of the British Museum from 1946 to 1969. The former Basil Gray collection of books and journals, including his own publications, on the arts of Islam, India, China, and Japan is noted for its invaluable significance.
