1. Operation buttons

  • Basic and optional function buttons to view images are laid out at the bottom of the main view.
    From left to right,
    • Transliteration (left end): Displays transliterated sentences of cuneiform inscriptions on each side of the clay tablets.
    • Display reset: Reverts to initial display. Adjusts the enlargement ratio to match the current display range.
    • Zoom-in/out: Shows the image at fixed magnification of 2 or 1/2 based on an image magnification ratio of 100%. A gray display indicates that it is outside the range of operation.
    • Zoom slider: Enlarges the image to an arbitrary magnification, up to a maximum of 150%. May slightly degrade images.
    • Rotation: Rotates in the direction of the arrow.
    • Rotation reset: Reverts rotation to the initial state. Indicates the current direction of rotation.
    • Locator: Shows the corresponding part of the magnified image by manipulating the yellow frame of the small display at the lower right.
    • "Glassview" (right end): The left button for complete transparency and the right button for partial transparency.
   

2. Viewing method


2-1. Panning an image

  • Dragging the image in the main view moves the image accordingly.
  • Double clicking on the image moves the clicked position to the center and magnifies it by one level.
  • The display range can be moved by clicking or dragging the Locator. The position is decided upon completion of the operation.

2-2. Image zoom-in/out

  • Zoom-in/out with the buttons on the controller. Magnification is fixed at 2 and 1/2, based on an image size of 100%.
  • Move the zoom slider to the left or right to display it at an arbitrary magnification ratio.
   

3. Image selection


  • Thumbnails are displayed at the upper right of the main view.
  • You can select images such as obverse, reverse, and sides of the clay tablets.
  • Multiple views are displayed when inscriptions encircle the clay tablet.

   

4. Display of inscriptions, transliteration, translation,
    and "Glassview" of transliteration


4-1. Display of inscriptions, translated sentences and the explanation of terms

  • Cuneiform inscriptions on the clay tablets are translated into English. Selecting a line in the transliteration displays its transliteration and translation above.
  • Clicking on the blue words displays the description of the term in a small window as shown in the figure on the right.


4-2. "Glassview"

  • Clicking the "Glassview" button at the bottom right turns it on and displays the transliteration transparently over the image of clay tablet cuneiform inscriptions.
  • There are two types of "Glassview" buttons, for complete transparency on the left and partial transparency on the right.
  • In case of partial transparency, the location and size of the display can be selected. As shown in the figure on the right, moving the mouse to the lower right of the transparent frame changes it to white. You can then change the size by dragging.
  • Pressing the PC space key incrementally changes the level of transparency.
  • To exit “Glassview”, click the button again.
  • When you select a line in the transliteration, the corresponding part of the image will move to the center of the main view.

5. Browser environment


  • To display the viewer, enable JavaScript and CSS in Web browser settings.
  • OS and Web browser combination:
    • macOS/Windows & Google Chrome 55+ (Latest version recommended)
    • macOS/Windows & Mozilla Firefox 50+ (Latest version recommended)
    • macOS 10.12, & Safari
    • iPad 9+ & Safari
    • Android 6+ & Chrome
    • Windows 7+ & Internet Explorer 11
    • Windows 10 & Egde
  • Operation is possible even with combinations other than the above if the same conditions are satisfied.
  • Not all functions can be used on small screens. Display and operation defects may occur on small devices.
  • In Firefox, multi-touch (gesture) operation of the touch panel currently does not function properly.
   

6. iPallet/Lime
