分割統治されていたローマ帝国を再統一したコンスタンティンI世(在位306-337)の時代に発行された銅貨です。この時代のローマ帝国は、ヨーロッパ、アナトリア半島、そして西アジアからアフリカに至る地中海沿岸地域を支配下においていました。
コインの表側にはヘルメットをかぶったローマ神が、裏側にはローマの始祖とされるロムルスとレムスが狼の乳を飲む姿が表わされています。双子の兄弟ロムルスとレムスは、雌狼の乳をもらって育てられたという伝説があります。

Constantine I (r. 306-346 CE.), the first Roman emperor to profess Christianity, reunited the empire and established peaceful hegemony. His rule extended over Europe, Anatolia, and the Mediterranean world.
