胴部に花の文様が表わされ、黄色の釉薬が施された華やかな一品です。 　 上部の形が鶏冠（とさか）に似ていることから、鶏冠壺の名があります。また、縦長で扁平、下ぶくれの器形は遊牧民の革製の水筒を象（かたど）ったと考えられ、皮嚢壺（ひのうこ）とも呼ばれます。器の表面の凸線は革袋の縫い目を表わすのでしょう。鶏冠状の耳に穿（うが）たれた孔（あな）は、紐をとおして馬の鞍などに吊り下げるためのものと思われます。北方の遊牧民契丹（きったん）が建てた遼という国にふさわしい、この時代独特の器形です。		Flower pattern was drawn by incised line and the body was covered with vivid yellow glaze. 　 The shape is characteristic of the Liao dynasty, which was established by nomads. Such flasks might have imitated the nomad's traditional flask made of leather. Therefore it was named Pinang hu (Pinang =leather flask). Moreover because the shape in the upper part of this flask looks like a cockscomb, it was also named Jiguan hu (Jiguan =cockscomb).
